Maryellen McCabe and her band Phoenix Rising present HEROES AND HEROINES:

A Mythic, Multi-cultural, Theatrical Concert about great men and women who serve the common good.

Heroes and Heroines is an inspirational journey that pays tribute to great leaders of the past and instills hope for the future.

About the Musical Performance

Maryellen McCabe and her band Phoenix Rising perform an inspiring, contemporary, folk rock style theatrical concert. The performance includes songs on the lives of great men and women who have served the common good. Her multi-media, multi-cultural concert includes original songs on:

  • Hiawatha
  • Mother Teresa
  • Francis Bacon
  • Thomas Jefferson
  • Sojourner Truth
  • Martin Luther King
  • Eleanor Roosevelt
  • Nicholas Roerich
  • F.D.R.

An historical overview of the person's achievement in history is introduced in the form of both monologues and poetry derived from the best in American literature. This show is relevant to a variety of curriculums including social studies, humanities, creative writing, history and psychology.

Music is a familiar mode, particularly for young people to absorb new ideas. It can be one of the most effective and important ways to inspire values and ideals without the alienating feature of appearing "preachy."

Heroes and Heroines is relevant to both college and high school audiences. It has also been successfully performed at conferences, holistic learning centers, clubs and progressive democratic fund raisers.

Artistic and Educational Value

Abraham Maslow once asked his students,

Which of you in the class hopes to write the great American novel, or to be a Senator, or Governor, or a President? Who want to be Secretary-General of the United Nations? Or a great composer? Who aspires to be a saint like Schwitzer, perhaps? Who among you will be a great leader?

He then went on to report that everybody in his classroom began blushing and squirming until he asked, "If not you, then who else?"

We would like to ask these same questions of the many college and high school students who need to be nurtured and empowered by the possibilities that lie within them to do great things and for the right reasons...that is, to serve mankind.
